Finally, it’s set up!
It’s been a little bit tiresome getting my new pc work, but finally it is set up now. This is a live posting from the pc -_-’. I was not patient enough to explore more on the items I was going to order, I just wanted to end the misery I guess wkwkwk. Well the problem was, I bought motherboard Abit Fatal1ty F-190HD and intel e7200 as the processor. Got them from http://rakitan.com based on Indra’s suggestion, which allow me to save some money since electronics goods in Bali generally has higher price and one of the reason might be transportation cost. The rest of the pc components like casing and, speaker and monitor, which are quite heavy, are bought from Deny’s aunt who owns a PC store in Denpasar.
Since I have not installed a CPU before, I asked for help from Fajar. However, since the psu from the casing does not have power cable for SATA devices, we just didn’t to turned on the PC. Having bought the adapter cable for SATA, I tried to turn on the PC nothing happened nothing on the monitor, not even a single beep from the motherboard. That’s why I asked for help again from master Seno and master Defeng. However, we didn’t got a single clue of the problem. We decided to have it checked in a PC store in front of Mitrais. They suspected the problem was the cpu might not be supported by the motherboard but since they were not familiar with abit motherboard they suggested to have the PC examined by PC stores in Rimo.
I searched for information on the cpu and the motherboard. I found that e7200 has LGA775 socket, core to duo processor, with 1066/800MHz. Well this specification is supported by the motherboard. I was confused, and thinking whether the cpu or the motherboard somehow broken. However, what I didn’t know was the motherboard is “old product”, it’s released last year and no longer produced by Abit, but the cpu is quite new.
Confused, I went to Rimo with Ira who wanted to buy a laptop :). Asking several stores to identify the problem with my PC, there were no good explanation. Tired of carrying the PC I decided to find a store which looked more ”professional” where I can leave it. Found a store on the third floor. After the technician tried to use older core 2 duo, 65nm CPU, finally the computer turned on and the problem was confirmed. I asked them to update the BIOS to see if the problem would be solved but they were not sure and recommending a new motherboard. I insisted to update the BIOS but they said in order to do that they had to wait for other technician and asked me to come the following day.
Searching for information on Abit’s forum, I found a BIOS update for the motherboard which will enable it to support 45nm CPU. Hmm it was good to know that E7200 is a 45nm CPU. I downloaded the BIOS update version 19 and went to Rimo during lunch break with Yendy. Fortunately, my boss was on leave so I didn’t have to asked for permission. I came to the PC store and asked about my PC, they said it could not be done, there was no BIOS update and starting to recommend other motherboard of which price is two times abit Fatal1ty F-190HD. Realizing where they were heading, I insisted on updating the bios with the file I brought.
It was clear that they have not even checked abit’s website. Having seen the website they insisted to use the BIOS version 18 where the CPU 45 nm support first introduced, although Abit clearly described that all the fixes on the previous version is included in the later version. Moreover, They used different awdflash parameter to update the BIOS, but it did worked, after that the PC can display the BIOS menu. By that time, I had already really late for worked and I still wanted to pick up my external hard disk from Tiki Denpasar. Therefore I just brought the PC although they offer to do further test whether the CPU is stable or not.
I arrived at the office at 4pm wkwkwkwk, I had run away from work for 3 hours. Since my project manager gave me task to explore some libraries related to java I felt that I had been irresponsible. After I went home, I Installed the OS, it was fine. I could play Dot A, watch some prison break latest episodes, play some music, but when I decided to open the .jar file that my boss had asked to explore, the PC just restart and as usual the message said “it has recovered from serious error”. I didn’t have idea what the problem was. Being curios, I tried it over and over again with some modification here and there until I got blue screen wkwkwkwk. Finally, the blue screen explained there was a problem with the on board VGA.
I decided to update the BIOS again, since the motherboard has recognized the CPU I could do it easily. After creating a boot able flash disk by using flash disk which I borrowed from Maria. I only need to execute the provided run.bat file from the BIOS update files, it was updated successfully. I set the BIOS setting, and increased the shared memory for on board VGA to 256MB. After that, when I opened .jar file it didn’t restart like what happened previously. However, when I installed Netbean I got strange error , shown in the picture below.
Fortunately it was only because the previous fail installation. After deleting all file in C:\Program Files\Common files\InstallShield\Universal\Common, at last problem solved. I have disturbed many people for this problem and fortunately they didn’t mind :) thank you (B).
By the way, Today is a great day, I want to say,
Selamat Idul Fitri 1429H, mohon maaf lahir dan batin. Semoga ibadah puasanya diridhoi
I want to sent text message to my friends who are celebrating it, but then I think they probably have already too busy replying all of those text
Happy holiday!
