As a follow up to my last post the next problem I’m facing now is having duplicate contents in different website. I know duplicating content is not always a bad thing of course. In some cases, it is done in order to get more exposure of an important news or an interesting article. Yeah..yeah.. the junks in my old blog is that important LOL.

CMIIW, from what I have read, duplicate content (especially a mirror site) is the problem we should avoid if we want our blog to be indexed by search engine. What is the problem with duplicate content? A search engine wants to satisfy its user. Thus, in displaying search result, 5 links with different content I think more preferred than  displaying 5 links with the the same content for instance.

Duplicate content can be seen as duplicate content in the same website or vice versa. The problem caused by importing my old blog content is the second type. How is it become a problem? Hmm, how should it be explained? I’m not a search engine expert. However, based on what  recently find out, there are filtering mechanism in search engine.

When the search engine bot crawls web pages, it might exclude a content detected as a duplicate. Therefore this page will not be added to the search engine index and obviously will never appear in a search result.  Even if it is somehow indexed, search engine might choose the source with higher page rank. Furthermore, in displaying the result, it can hide similar content like what Google does.

It was stupid, I use a customized search engine from google to search the content of my blog, but it never return any results since none of the page in http://krisantus.com has been indexed yet. It leads me suspecting the duplicate content problem. Considering about it, I have deleted all of the content in my old blog in wordpress.

Does it solve the problem? I don’t know yet, I guess it will. However it does create a new problem, people can not find my old content.  I have give information to change the base address in order to go to the old content in the new address. Apparently, people just don’t have time to do it. Now, Word Press feature to redirect page to a new domain seems very tempting. Unfortunately, we have to pay for it and maybe it will not be worthed as much as the number of my old blog visitor.

Other than the duplicate content problem, I have not successfully used plug in to rate a post. I’m thinking about adding a little code to automatically update “quote of the day”. Hmm, there are a lot of things to do in this majibu time LOL.
